Wyatt is home!

Hi Ladies!
It's been a very busy couple of days.  The trip home from the Springs was long and uneventful; they got along fine, chewed their bones and did great when we stopped at a restaurant in Raton for a meal. Parked where we could see the car and any shenanigans, but there were none.
Not much sleep last night for anyone, but Wyatt did well in his crate, as long as Sadie would leave him alone!
This morning, Wyatt was introduced to chickens and goats, and acted like he's known them all his life.
By 8:30 am, they were zooming through the house.
Sadie continues to growl her dominance, but Zeke and Wyatt have made friends and are playing.
Wyatt seems to love the food!
And, no surprise here, "someone" has pre-spoiled him!  At breakfast this morning, he parked beside Ken's chair, with Zeke on the other side, and they took turns sitting for treats from the "treat man".  He seems to like Ken a lot and we should that Pete for that.
I gave him a "rough cut" this morning and he did pretty good.  Ken clippered him; I scissored. He needs some touching up, but it'll do for now.
By this evening, he and Zeke were playing well.  Sadie joins in as spoiler, but I think she'll decide soon enough that it's more fun to have fun!  Wyatt will pick out a toy, run with it, toss it to Zeke and they're off!
Wyatt is sure a happy little guy!  Great smile, wonderful, exhuberant attitude!  He just wants to have fun.
He knows "doggie door" and has been 100% so far on doing his job outside.  I'm being very attentive to that, of course.
Here's some pics.
I think it's going very well.  Right now, Zeke is out with Ken and Wyatt and Sadie are laying down peacefully together on the floor by my chair.
I'm exhausted!  Will send more reports and pics later.
Thanks so much for all your good thoughts, prayers and encouragment.
Wyatt is home.
Best to you all,
Katy and  Co.
PS It's been like watching a miniature "wolf pack"on PBS in action.  They are doing all the things a pack would do, with the alpha pair accepting a new, junior member to the pack.  Fascinating!

Wyatt Report

Hi Lhasa Friends!

Here's a quick report on Wyatt's progress incorporating into the Widger household:  In a word:  GREAT!

I could only hope when we picked him up 12 days ago that things would progress this quickly. He's simply made himself at home and Sadie and Zeke have accepted him as one of their kin and pack with no major upsets.  Sadie reminds him daily that he's at the bottom of the totem pole, and he doesn't mind at all; happy to know his place. But she's much less insistent in her manner, not nearly so "hard" on him as the first few days.  And she obviously loves him, and remembers him as her son.  They pal around together and she follows him, or he follows her, just about everywhere. They even act like mother and son towards each other.

He and Zeke also pair up for pokes or roughhouse playtime.  They race through the house, leaving Sadie in their dust, playing rough and tumble games that take them  bursting out the Apso door, down the walk, zooming through the gardens paths and back again, up and down on the couch and back on the bed.

In the mornings, all three have a serious romp  together before and after breakfast.  Then the boys go for a poke with Ken in the blackberries, if he's home, and Sadie hangs with me.  If he's gone, they all three go on a shorter poke with "mom" in the garden.
Wyatt is a clown and has a genuine sense of good humor and fair play.  He'll grab a toy, race by Zeke with an invitation to play, and zoom back, drop the toy right at Zeke's feet, and off they go!  And he loves to "toss" his toys in the air.  He's picked out several that the other dogs were ignoring, and made them his favorites.  He especially likes the large hedgehog that makes a hedgehog noise!

Wyatt reminds me of Steve Martin in his antics and good nature.
He is, as Pete said, a delightful little dog!  Housetraining is going well, also, with 100% days outnumbering days with "accidents".
He's bright, eager, fun-loving  and confident.  And they're all getting along so well!
No doubt about it, we have a threesome!
Here's some photos from our outing up in the forest last week:

Happy apsos to you all!

October 17, 2007 -

Puppies had their check-up and first shot this morning. The vet said they were all beautiful! He can't find anything wrong except for a very tiny umbilical on the one girl.
All boys have 2 testicles.  Everyone's eyes and patella's look good at this age.
The 2 girls each way the same  4.4 pounds
      2 boys                               5 pounds
      1 big boy                           5.9 pounds

The FFT dogs all come with a 2 year health guarantee; they must be spayed or neutered.  We do not let any of our puppies go before the age of 10 weeks, sometimes a little longer, depending on their litter size and development. All of our puppies are born in our homes, usually in the living room next to the couch, since they tend to be born during the night.   They are all raised within our home, and socialized with people, children and other pets. We require a non-refundable $100 deposit at 2 weeks of age to hold your puppy which is applied to the final price of $1000.00.

Hi Debby and Rick and all the Apsos and Eli, too,
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year!
I've attached our Christmas Greetings and Letter with all our news.
Best wishes!
Katy and Ken

Wyatt has really settled in as of late.  He did well from the beginning, but there has been a "sea change" recently, and all three have settled into a quieter, calmer (most of the time!) mode of pack behaviour, Still plenty of zooming going on, however!  They all got new toys for Christmas, not that they needed any, but that has made for some fun times for all.

Zeke and Wyatt have developed a deep friendship.  I find them  laying beside one another with one's head resting on the other's back.

Sometimes Zeke and Sadie get into a fight (Sadie is still defending her leadership over Zeke, and that increased for a time with Wyatt's arrival, but she's mellowing out again) and Wyatt is right there in the middle, trying to calm them down, make peace, stop the arguing.  He's a genuinely happy little guy.
He has learned to "sit up" along with Zeke and Sadie, for a treat.  With his long legs and body, that's quite a trick!
He's very devoted to me, and I am never at a loss for Apso Companionship.  And he has also confirmed for me the Power of Positive Affirmations in asking Apsos for proper behaviour!  I learned this with Zeke, re-learned it with Sadie, and now, perhaps, it's finally "sunk" in for good!  A small example, but important one:  From the first day I "remembered" and started to tell him, "Wyatt ALWAYS pees outside!"  in a strong, happy voice, playing the image of him doing exactly that in my mind,  he never again peed in the house.  Ken, also, constructed an all-weather Apso Door, so they can come and go as they please, no matter the weather, which helps so much and keeps me from having to be a perpetual doorman.

Congratulations on your beautiful new Gompa Babies.  How very special they are!
And we are all so very proud of Julie and Fernando.
Take care and wishing you the best New Year ever!
Katy

Greetings All, dearest Family and Friends!

Such a big surprise! What a Beautiful gift of Joy, and yes, Grace. Ada Grace Bernard was born August 2, 2008, in Portland Oregon, forever altering the lives of everyone who loves her! The firstborn of Leah (Widger) and Ryan Bernard, she is a treasure without measure! Grandma Katy painted this picture of Ada Grace being held by her Grandpa Ken.  Ken actually got to fly to Portland to see her, but Katy will have to wait until they come for a visit in the spring.

Katy has spent time (never enough) in the studio painting, which is her great love. Uncommonly fond of canine critters, she has completed many dog portraits and other paintings of the life around her. You can always catch up with her most recent painting and what’s going on around our little

homestead on her blog at http://katywidger.blogspot.com.

            Beauty, Grace, Joy !

Never satisfied with anything short of fullness of expression and life, Katy has adopted another dog, Wyatt, to complete the pack. Sadie is Wyatt’s mother, and Zeke is his cousin. Wyatt is a riot; Sadie (all 11 pounds) is in charge, and Zeke is Zen Master in charge of Canine Communications.  Of course, the parrots, Layla, Skipper, Rosy and Henry, continue to entertain and keep daily life interesting.  Wyatt, who is 16 months old, acted like he’d been around house-dwelling birds all his short life!

The goats (5) continue to provide fresh milk, which is consumed raw, or made into Kefir and various cheeses.  Fresh, delicious eggs (19 hens, 1 rooster named Ralph) are a daily fare as well. A very unusual late freeze reduced the blackberry harvest to a disappointing 10 gallons, so rather than sell any of them we ate them fresh ourselves or froze them. The garden was prolific, however, with vast quantities of vegetables.  We continue in excellent health, thanks to this wonderful bounty and the fresh air and exercise we are afforded through the hard work to keep all the balls in the air.

Ken’s job as corporate pilot continues, and when he’s not flying politicians and “VIP’s” around the country, his down-to-earth job includes cutting fire wood, cleaning out animal pens, tilling and weeding, fencing and fixing the plot of God’s Good Earth we are blessed to call home.

Noel!  Noel! Born is the King of Israel!  King of Kings and Lord of Lords!  Son of God, Love’s pure Light! We celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We hope this letter finds you all in good cheer and good health, and in the presence of the Lord.

May God bless you through these anxious times, and prosper you in the coming New Year.

Much love, Ken & Katy, and the Critters
