Hi Debby,

Thank you for the tribute to Roman on your website.  I am not sure how to express my gratitude.  I was not expecting such a compliment to him.  I feel so lucky to have aquired him from FFT.   It was a conversation with Barb Kelm who sent me to Julie.  Barb knew I was looking for a second Lhasa and knew Julie had a retired Champion, wanting someone who would work in different modes of training, especially agility.  He is such a smart and happy guy.  He adds joy to my life each and every day.  Roman has such a different temperament from my older Lhasa, Taz.  They seem to compliment and balance each other.  I am amazed how well Roman reads Taz and acknowledges the seniority without challenge, unless he's in a teasing play mode.  To see the two charge across the yard together, play together, and defend their territory together is fun to observe.  At the end of the day it's not uncommon to see them lay shoulder to shoulder.

Attached are some photos from 5/26/07  NADAC trial at Zumbro Falls Park.  My favorite is the last tunnel shot.  We did a jumpers, touch and go, and tunnel run.   His focus on me has really improved.  We need to work on speed (my speed!)  and sending out to obstacles so if he gets ahead of me he still takes direction.

Once again these photos are from www.crystalimagepetphotograhy.com and the photographer has allowed me to send these to you.  This photographer has a great web site and photographs many of the events I attend.

I have sent friends to your web site to view Roman's page; all have complimented the website and what a tribute to this breed.

I started grooming as I wasn't happy with experiences with a temperamental Lhasa I had.  Each experience seems to heighten the dog's reactiveness.  I have seen too many groomers mishandle this breed, not understanding the proud temperament and what is needed for cooperation between the dog and person.

Thanks again.  I am so proud of my Roman and this tribute to him.

Hi Julie: Roman got his first "Q" in a CPE agility trial at Isanti Horse Barn/Hi V Ranch this past weekend.  It was a tunnelers and jumpers novice run.   He has gotten quite fast; our instructor says I am not fast enough to keep up with him.  We did 4 events, most errors were mine.  His last run was perfect.  He had a great time, loves to show off....and was the only Lhasa in the barn.   He is great fun to work with and am hoping will have lots of future events with him.   Mary

Hi Julie, good to hear from you.  I hope pictures of Roman's heritage are put on the FFT web; I check that often.  I saw the picture of his dad, Seth, was placed in a home.  Amazing, he looks a lot like my older Lhasa, Taz.  Roman wants to know how many, and all girls?  Are they all spoken for?  We're going to buy candy cigars for his agility class, need to know if we should buy all pink.

Roman, I could write a page on.  He has improved so much the past year in agility.  We're no border collie, but I think "the only Lhasa in the barn" in our Isanti and Cannon Falls events.  Just did a NADAC one day at Cannon Falls last week, great facility.  Have one coming up next week end at Zumbro Falls, outdoor, NADAC.  So far we are just doing jumpers, tunnelers.  We need work on weaves and the tetor.  NADAC has pulled the tetor from events for now, so last w/e we did our first touch and go.  You should see him go up the A frame, and the dog walk.  We were 2 seconds short from qualifying.  He had to go over and touch the judge, put his paws on him, in the touch and go. I told him that was not part of the run, but he needed to check him out. CPE events we have qualified in a couple of jumpers events.  CPE has easier courses, for me and Roman.  In June we are going to Stacy to the Teacup Agility; I've been told great fun and nice short runs.

If I get a good photo from Zumbro Falls in an event, I will send it to you.  I will check with the photographer, if it's ok, and you want to put it on the web site, I would be beaming.  He's so much fun.  He and Taz have really bonded; Roman seems to understand Taz's cranky nature, knows when to back off.  They play pretty hard with Lhasa wrestling and chasing. Taz's arthritis limits him a bit.  Taz travels to all Roman's events, seems to enjoy the activity.  I haven't done anymore Rally with him, he did finish all three levels, got his excellent title.  Quite a ackomplishment for a cranky old Lhasa.  Always got comments, "a Lhasa, in obedience?".  Hmm, imagine that.

Anyway, thanks for the info on Roman's grandpups.  Hope they are as great as he is.  Mary

Attached are some photos.  I have lots, so let me know if these are not ok.  Please give credit for agility photos to Crystal Image Pet Photography, who gave permission for photos to be use. The face shots are off my camera, tried to get ones where there was no eye reflection.

Roman has no agility titles yet.  We are only just beginning to compete.  We have two qualifing runs or "Q"s in CPE Novice Jumpers.  We have competed in CPE and NADAC trials. My colleagues in agility say Roman really likes the applause and shows great enthusiasm when in the agility ring.  We may also try some Rally.  My older Lhasa, from the Shisedo Line, Barb Kelm and Sandy Nyberg, has achieved 3 titles in Rally this past year.  He is 11.   Both attend Cloud 9 Dog Training in Hopkins, MN.  This is a reward based/clicker method  school.   After many years of traditional obedience I found this method so much more rewarding for both dog and human.

Thanks so much for letting me brag about my Roman.  Mary

Debby, thanks so much.  I tried the "blog" and made a comment on the site.    Once again I want to express my thanks to you and Julie for letting me share Roman's events.   Anyone who knows and understands this breed, understands  the comment, a little Lhasa in everyone, would make the world a better place.

Mary

Hi Debby, yes, photographer said it's ok.   I didn't want to load down the website, as some of the photos from the agility are there.   Julie had sent a picture from Roman's show days, wanted her to see how we used it.  It's a fun picture, having it matted and framed and it will hang next to Taz's Rally collage.  Fun things can happen with Lhasas!   Take care.  Mary

Hi Debby,   attached are more agility shots of  Roman.  These are from a June Teacup Dog Agility Show in Stacy, MN.   This was an extremely hot weekend, 90's plus.  Our biggest accomplishment was the teetor and the shute;  first ever he would do the teetor at a show.   Anyone interested, Teacup is a GREAT venue for small dogs.  It is for those 17 inches and under.   The equipment is scaled down and the runs are short.   Teacup has a web site also.   Lhasas don't like the heat, so our runs weren't so peppy.   We did whatever we could to cool down.   I wish they had more events in my area, indoor where it's cooler.     We just did a 2 day CPE event, also easier for making time.  Roman succeeded in gaining his Novice Jumpers Title, first agility title in CPE.   There was another Lhasa at this event who did really well,  fun to see more in the breed do agility.    Next weekend we return to an indoor astroturf  soccer arena for a NADAC  Trial in the cities.   The astroturf is great to run on.   Roman did the weave poles last time at this event, first ever in a show.   We continue to just go have fun, not worry about the Qs but also won't turn them down.

All these photos were once again from www.crystalimagepetphotography.com and the photographer gave permission to post these.  I wasn't sure how to add the photos to the What's New section.    You may use any or all for the web page.  Also, same photographer said would be ok to use the collage.

Take care and thanks for all the great information on your site.

Mary

Hi Debby, Julie,   attached are shots from our last CPE agility trial, end of Sept., St. Cloud, MN.   Roman did really well on the Saturday, getting some Qs in the games and jumpers, one standard course. Sunday was very hot, we did ok but needed a 2 hour cool down in the car with the ac.   Roman is starting to do the weaves with enthusiasm, and a little hip hop through them.    The picture of the shute, he's not going through, but backing out.  That's an obstacle we need work on.  Everyone was laughing, I didn't get it until after the run.  The photographer said he went through half way, then did a perfect straight line reverse.  Leave it to a Lhasa to have some creativity.  Use any photos,  permission given by crystalimagepetphotography.com.  Thanks for your time.  Mary R.
