Okay, ladies ... at Debby's request, I took photos of both ends of Dante.  Last week, he came up with these flaky areas on his nose.  Julie and I just figured I'd not gotten him clean/rinsed enough and he was having a build up of product.  The skin on his testicles, however, seemed hard and flaky as well.  Fast forward a week and this is what we've got ~~>  see photos below (disclaimer -- this is not puppy porn!!).  The areas on his nose went from flat/flaky to raised/flaky.

I bathed him today using a OTC salicyclic acid shampoo w/antibacterial (photos were taken after the bath).  He's not itching, licking or rubbing any where (never has) and the redness on his nose is fading.  I plan on putting neosporin on it for the night, however.  The shampoo seems to have loosened everything up and it is really flaking.

The darker areas on his testicles are where they've scaled off and are, once again, soft supple.

Anybody have a friggin' clue as to what's going on -- besides the fact we're 17 days out from Nationals??  :::::eye roll:::::  We do have an appointment on Monday with my vet.

His muzzle is a different story. If there were no shows coming up, I'd monitor this as well, bathing him in the shampoo you used weekly. Perhaps a muzzle bath in between. It looks like some of the hair has fallen out along the part. Has it? Julie, confirm this...but, I'd be giving him a dose of Ivermectin and another in 3 weeks, to be on the safe side.

Mr. Flaky is still a flakin' this morning ... nice new skin underneath.

I don't think he's lost much hair, if any, along the muzzle.  The redness makes the part look more prominent.  Faye said she's had something very similar to this with Robby ...

Robby came home with something similar as well when he spent a week at a kennel he'll never go back to and Alli occasionally gets it on her nose.  His was caused by excess moisture - he messed his skirt and all they did was rinse them off didn't dry them so everything got really sore and was gross when I picked him up - many doses of gold bond medicated and diaper cream cleaned him up.  Alli's has no explanation - vet says it is yeasty.  Sam will sometimes get yeasty on hiss balls and his legs if I don't get him completely dry either - don't know what causes it - just know I dose it with gold bond once a day for 2-3 days and it's gone.

It could very well be that I wasn't getting Dante dry enough or it possibly started with the rainy/humid trip to MN.  He's still not itching with this, unlike what Julie was going through.  Try the Gold Bond for the weekend and see what happens?  Faye, were you powdering daily?

Vickie,
I'm not sure exactly what it is. If he was a person I would say it is something like Seborrheic or psoriasis, which I have. It is very flakey and I can get sores, where I lose hair.  I think the Salicycic Acid Shampoo is the right thing to do. I do make my conditioner heavier and leave on longer, but rinse really well.(on my dogs-not me)
Let me know what the vet says, my guess is he/she won't find much and won't know what to do, if that is the case I would also ask your vet for some Cephelixin.  Tell him/her that the breeder has used it on a similar condition and it helped-in otherwords lie! I would continue with the shampoo until Nationals and start the fish oil vitamins.  I think it is a very light bacteria, that won't show up on slids.
If you had Ivomec, I would say do it, it certainly won't hurt.  Maybe your vet would give you some, it is really cheap, Dante at #14 would need about .23 ml 2 weeks apart.  I really don't think that is what it is, though.  Is he on any heartworm medicine?  If so, then he wouldn't need the Ivomec.
The other product you could ask the vet for is Revolution, this is about $15 a dose (you'd need 2) but it would also cover Dante for fleas in Houston, then you just wouldn't do the frontline.  But again not if he has received heartworm med this month already. I think this would be your best bet instead of the Ivomec, since we are headed to flea country.

Yes, he's on Interceptor.  And I have a dose of Frontline for the trip south.

The redness didn't appear until after we'd bathed him yesterday.  Prior to that, it was just white/flaky/raised.  My guess is he has a something yeasty going on with possibly a secondary bacterial infection.  I'm going to try the GoldBond so I can tell my vet what did/didn't work over the weekend.
