The
Lhasa Apso

Author's note by Frances Sefton:
Because of the limited space available, it has not been possible to make
this as complete a breed record as one might have hoped. I have therefore
tried to include those dogs who, because of circumstances or achievements,
have made history, or who, through their progeny or their line, have
influenced the development of the breed. This has meant that references to
many people who have been extremely helpful, and to many dogs who have
interesting stories, have had to be left out. To them, and to those who,
despite the publicizing of my intention to write this booklet and my
research, I have not come across, I tender my apologies. Perhaps, in a few
years time, there will be an opportunity to write at greater length the
stories of many more Lhasa Apsos.
I hope this little book will guide many more people to a greater
understanding and appreciation of what is an attractive and unique little
dog. This understanding is already shared by many people without whol this
book would never have been possible: - those who sent me photographs and
news of their dogs: those who passed on to me information, guidance, and
advice, the wealth of their experience; those who bore with me through
many hours of talking, many many pages of correspondence, much reading of
draft manuscript. Space does not permit mention of them all by name, but I
would like to thank them all, and acknowledge in particular the valuable
guidance given by the Hon. Mrs. I. Bailey, Mrs. T. E. Morgan, Mrs. Marie
Stillman and Mrs. Dorothy Cohen.
I dedicate this book to the subject of it all - the Lhasa Apso.
