Register of Merit Lhasa Apso Breeders

True to the heritage of this ancient breed as found in Tibet,
as described in our breed standard, with a focus on health,
our Lhasa Apsos are champions of competitions and family pets of great character.

Proud to be Purebred

Proud to follow the American Lhasa Apso Club's Code of Ethics

Dedicated breeders of the Lhasa Apso are distinguished from those who exploit the breed for profit by their adherence to a set of ethical principles.
On principle and as members of The American Lhasa Apso Club we are opposed to the deliberate crossing of Lhasa Apsos with any other breed.
These crossbreeds are a deliberate attempt to mislead the public with the idea that there is an advantage to these designer dogs.
Crossbred dogs are prone to all of the genetic diseases of both breeds and offer none of the advantages that owning a purebred dog has to offer.

Welcome! Whether you're the owner of a Lhasa Apso, educating yourself about the breed, considering the purchase of an Apso or simply surfing the web, welcome!

A myriad of information is contained within this website, no matter your level of expertise on the breed. The What's New Blog is a meeting place for Apso Aficionados, a community built around a common love of the lion dog from Tibet. We talk about dogs - and a lot of other things - together. We laugh together. We cry together. Regularly maintained, the blog is a great place to meet us - Debby and Julie - as well as people that have become a part of our lives. Friends, old friends, new friends, we've made through the Lhasa Apso. Join us!

Intended to provide information for owners of our dog and puppies, within Apsos! Apsos! you'll find resources for topics like training - whether it be a new puppy or a dog for exhibition - grooming, nutrition and veterinary care.

Are you thinking about purchasing a Lhasa Apso?  If you're interested in one of our dogs, fill out this questionnaire. Are you looking for a responsible breeder? Here's a form to help you determine if you're dealing with an ethical breeder. Read the American Lhasa Apso Club's Code of Ethics. See what's currently available.

We strive to endow every puppy with healthy genes, to stay abreast with the latest in science and how it relates to breeding dogs. Our dogs have contributed to a number of scientific projects, including research into the plasticity of the canine genome and the migration of the canine as dogs became domesticated. Our dogs' kidney biopsy database was the foundation of research that led to the current DNA test for Renal Dysplasia.

Breeding Apsos is designed for serious students of the breed. Sections pertaining to anatomy, genetics, coat color, renal dysplasia, reproduction and the breed's standard contain information in the form of articles, books, films and websites.

Tibet, the highest country in the world,  is 'the roof of the world'. It is surrounded with mystique and nearly impenetrable mountain ranges. Tibetan monasteries were home to Apsos, making them tough, hardy and loyal little watch dogs. As a point of clarification, Tibetans call their dogs Apsos. The inclusion of the term Lhasa (the capital of Tibet) is a western addition. Since being introduced to the western world near the turn of the twentieth century, the breed has had numerous names including Lhasa Terrier, Bhuteer Terrier and Tibetan Apso. And, within this site, Gompa Lhasa Apso, referring to the unique group of Apsos, recently dating back to Gompa Apso breeder the late Lama Gyen Yeshe. Whatever the name, according to lore and recently substantiated in DNA studies, the breed has been in existence for centuries upon centuries.

For four decades FFT - Fleetfire Timbers - Lhasa Apsos have graced the homes of discerning Lhasa Apso fanciers. At FFT high quality is maintained, each litter planned to produce top quality Apsos for our breeding program, the future of the breed and its gene pool top priorities. FFT has bred and/or owned nearly 100 Champions, multiple Best in Specialty Apsos, a number of Group winners as well as Register of Merit dogs and bitches. Julie has repeatedly campaigned FFT dogs to Top Five Lhasa Apso the past few years.

Because the breeding program itself is the top priority, we keep at least one - sometimes two - puppies from each litter. With rare exception, the rest of the puppies are placed in pet homes. That's the lifestyle we prefer for our puppies. We select which puppy is going to which home, based on a number of factors including individual temperament and requests from each buyer.
